After 40 years of service to Barrie and Simcoe County, the Gryphon Theatre Foundation is taking some time off from its regular schedule of presentations.

The Gryphon Theatre Foundation’s Board of Directors has taken this step in order to facilitate a review of its operations, development of its Board of Directors, a revisit of its mission and mandate and re-organization of its finances.  The Board will be seeking input from patrons, suppliers and other stakeholders.

The City of Barrie’s cultural department has committed its full support to the Gryphon during this period of restructuring and has contracted the Foundation to continue provision of its box office service at the Georgian College Theatre.  The City and Georgian College is presently upgrading the Georgian Theatre facility.  This provides an opportunity for the Gryphon Theatre Foundation to address very important issues of sustainability.

The curtain rose for the first time at Gryphon Theatre in the summer of 1969. On January 22, 1971, the theatre group was incorporated as the Georgian Foundation of the Performing Arts, with a name change in 1979 to its well-known name of Gryphon Theatre Foundation. Gryphon Theatre operates out of the Georgian College Theatre, a 697 seat theatre located on the campus of Georgian College in Barrie.
